Jerry Banks is CEO & President of the Rowena Corporation, a company he founded in 1986 that today provides strategic advice, market development, and investment management services to high-growth venture clients. He has particular expertise in the fields of real estate, health care, and food manufacturing and distribution.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Banks has contributed to the success of diverse and numerous enterprises. He lead Aetna Life Insurance Company’s Community Redevelopment Program in New Orleans, facilitated NCNB/NationsBank/Bank of America’s Florida branch bank strategy, developed the award-winning Hunter’s Creek master-planned community in Orlando, and created and built-up beverage and ice businesses, which are now owned by larger entities. Mr. Banks began his career in the commercial mortgage banking industry as a commercial real estate analyst, representing life insurance companies and financial institutions in real estate debt and equity investments.
An active participant in his community, Mr. Banks has a special interest in children and education. He served as Chairman of the Newman Centers of Central Florida, Chairman of St. Margaret Mary Catholic School Board of Education, and as a member of Bishop Moore High School Board of Education.
A member of the Board of Governors for Florida State University’s College of Business since 1989, former Chairman, and serving ten years on the board’s executive committee, Mr. Banks has supported fundraising and leadership transitions. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for Florida Citrus Sports, an organization whose foundation benefits educational institutions and charities in the Central Florida community. In 2012, he was appointed to the CEO Council of the Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research, an organization that facilitates commercialization of technology and intellectual property emanating from Florida-funded institutions and organizations.
A member of the Florida Board of Managers since 2007, Mr. Banks’ first exposure to Nemours came as a real estate advisor, helping to locate property in Orlando for building the Nemours Children’s Clinic. He brings broad business experience as an entrepreneur, corporate leader, investment manager, and advisor to Nemours governance and the Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando’s Medical City.
Mr. Banks holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Florida State University, and completed postgraduate studies in philosophy and theology at St. Meinrad College, Indiana. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award of the National Catholic Education Association.
Mr. Banks and his wife of 23 years have 2 sons, one attending high school and the other in college.
