Rosa Baumanis Hakala is Vice President Distribution and Logistics for Barnes and Noble, Inc., a Fortune 500 company and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products. The Company operates 689 Barnes & Noble bookstores in 50 states and is one of the Web’s largest e-commerce sites.
Prior to Barnes and Noble, Inc, Ms. Hakala was Chief Supply Chain Officer for Floor and Decor Outlets of America, an Atlanta based company established in 2001 that has grown to more than 35 retail locations in 15 U.S. metropolitan markets.
Prior to Floor and Decor, Ms. Hakala spent 3 years as vice president of supply chain strategy and transportation for Best Buy Co., Inc., a multinational retailer of technology and entertainment products and services headquartered in Minnesota.
Before joining Best Buy in 2008, Ms. Hakala spent two years as senior vice president, retail sector for Agility, a global logistics company and seven years at The Home Depot, a home improvement retailer.
Ms. Hakala joined The Home Depot in 1999 and held various positions of increasing responsibility including director of international logistics and supply chain; senior director of logistics, eastern division; and vice president, international supply chain. In her capacity as vice president, she played an instrumental role in developing Home Depot’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) program and opening Home Depot’s global sourcing offices in China.
Ms. Hakala has more than 25 years of experience in global logistics and supply chain and lends her expertise to numerous organizations including the Annual Logistics Conference Steering Committee for the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) where she spearheaded the ‘Women in Retail Logistics’ program.
She graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree and a concentration in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Ms. Hakala resides in Princeton, N.J. with her husband Terry and is mother to three wonderful young adults, Alexandra, Michael and William.
