Toni Jennings, Board of Directors

Toni Jennings served as Florida’s first female Lieutenant Governor and served two terms as President of the Florida Senate. From her beginnings as a fifth grade teacher, through nearly 30 years in public service and ongoing leadership on boards and advisory councils, Ms. Jennings has had powerful impact on children, education, and health care in her home state. She is recognized for her work in creating a system of accountability in public education, launching readiness programs for Florida’s preschool children, and crafting reforms to modernize Florida’s health care market and increase patient access.

The Toni Jennings Exceptional Education Institute at the University of Central Florida College of Education, focuses on training and education for teachers who work with children with exceptionalities. Ms. Jennings is a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Florida’s Future and a member of the steering committee for the Children’s Movement, both work to provide quality education to Florida’s youth.

Ms. Jennings also serves on the boards of Next Era Energy, Brown & Brown, Inc., SunTrust Bank of Central Florida, the Winter Park Health Foundation, and the Florida Council of 100. She is Chairman of the Board of Jack Jennings & Sons, Inc., commercial general contractors and construction managers, founded by her father in 1948.

A native of Orlando, Ms. Jennings joined the Nemours Board of Directors in 2007, bringing to Nemours extensive knowledge of health care policy and the Central Florida community, business, and industry. She joined the Florida Board of Managers in 2009 to further lend her skills to the new Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando and share information across Nemours governance.

Ms. Jennings graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Wesleyan College. Her distinguished public career and community leadership have earned her many awards and recognitions.
