Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Children's Health Care

duPontIn his life and work, Mr. Alfred I. duPont, benefactor of the Nemours Foundation, was creative but exacting - seeking for himself and inspiring others to achieve excellence. This award is intended to promote continuing improvement in the care of children by recognizing annually, an individual who has made significant contributions to quality of care. - John "Jack" Porter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nemours.

In 2001, the Board of Directors of Nemours established the Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Children’s Health Care to honor Mr. duPont and his legacy of care. The award consists of a $50,000 cash prize and an original crystal sculpture by Steuben Glass. The Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Children’s Health Care has been established by Nemours to:

  • Honor Alfred I. duPont as the benefactor of Nemours
  • Recognize one person annually who has made outstanding contributions to children’s health care nationwide
  • Promote continuing improvement in children’s health care

The Alfred I. duPont Award is the first national level award recognizing an individual for outstanding contributions to the care of children. At a time when there is increasing attention to, and expectation of, quality and safety in health care, the nations youngest citizens must not be forgotten. This award seeks to honor achievements in Children’s health care and to promote efforts by other organizations and individuals to focus on improving the quality of health care delivered to children.

The Award

Recipients of the Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Children's Health Care receive a $50,000 cash prize and an original crystal sculpture created by Steuben Glass.
