Help Our Kids Radiothon volunteers feverishly answering phones in the final minutes of the event.
This year’s Radiothon spokesperson Aydia Karas, of Oley, Pa., happily answered phones and generated lots of donations.
On Sept. 10–11, 2013, the Help Our Kids Radiothon was held at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. For 24 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day), the hospital’s cafeteria was buzzing with the sounds of seven different Delmarva Broadcasting Company radio stations as they shared with their listeners stories of hope, courage and compassion from our patients, families and clinicians. As the clock hit 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the total amount raised was announced: $203,010.
Donations came steadily throughout the two-day event via a phone bank and online giving. There were also those who donated in person, inspired by what they heard on their favorite radio station.
- This was the third Annual Help Our Kids Radiothon to benefit Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
- Delmarva Broadcasting Company had a total of seven radio stations that participated: WDEL 1150 AM, WSTW 93.7 FM, Eagle 97.7 FM, WXCY 103.7 FM, Cool 101.3 FM, 105.9 FM, and La Exitosa 104.1 FM.
- More than 175 volunteers, including Nemours Associates and community members, shared their valuable time to make the Radiothon such a success.
- An overview of the Help Our Kids Radiothon, including all our sponsors and Aydia’s story (this year’s Radiothon spokesperson) are online at www.nemours.org/radiothon.
"We are once again so grateful for the support of Delmarva Broadcasting Company, as well as the sponsors, our volunteers, and everyone who tuned in and donated. The generosity of our community is second-to-none. And a special thank you also goes out to our amazing patients and their families, who so graciously shared their stories throughout our 2-day event."
— Marie Hiddeman, Associate Director of Fund Development, Nemours Fund for Children's Health
"Each year of Radiothon I’m astounded by the support we receive from our community as well as our own Associates. This year is no exception. All the money raised will stay right here, helping our kids grow up healthy, and assist in building a hospital like no other in the region."
— Roy Proujansky, Chief Executive of Nemours Delaware Valley Operations
