University of Delaware (UD) football head coach K.C. Keeler
Wilmington, DE — University of Delaware (UD) football head coach K.C. Keeler, who received the 2010 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award, has shared that award with the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The Liberty Award, presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance in conjunction with the College Football Hall of Fame, is the leading college football honor recognizing coaches for their sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility and excellence, on and off field. It includes a charitable donation of $50,000 which Keeler chose to designate for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware, Autism Delaware and the duPont Hospital for Children. The hospital received $12,500 on Keeler’s behalf.
“Coach Keeler embodies the spirit of the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award through his dedication to his students, team and community. We celebrate responsibility in coaching because we believe it is one of the clearest examples of a positive influence one can have on young people, their families and their communities,” said Greg Gordon, Liberty Mutual Senior Vice president of Consumer Marketing.
In 2010, Keeler led UD, his alma mater, to the national title game for the third time in his head coaching career. Off the field, Coach Keeler and his team are renowned leaders in the Newark area and throughout the state of Delaware. He and the Blue Hens have been seasonal visitors to the hospital for many years.
Lori Counts, Managing Director of the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health, thanked Keeler for his generosity and longstanding support of the hospital. “This gift means a great deal to Nemours and to the children and families we serve. It means that we can do more to improve care, get needed equipment and provide comfortable surroundings. Coach Keeler is more than a winning coach, he is an advocate for young people and a leader in every sense of the word.”
