Preparing Young Learners for Reading Success

Reading level is one of the strongest predictors of adult health status. Through Nemours BrightStart!, our goal is to put children on the road to reading success from the earliest possible age. Developed by Nemours pediatric specialists in brain science, researchers and early learning experts, Nemours BrightStart! is a one-of-a-kind program that offers science-based tools aimed at educators, parents, physicians and other community members. Each aspect of the program is intended to raise awareness about the warning signs of dyslexia and offer guidance to help prevent young vulnerable learners from falling behind their peers.

We focus much of our work on pre-kindergartners, when preventive action can help the most, and have developed a unique child screening and educational instruction program that takes proven, effective research and translates it to the preschool classroom, transforming the way children approach reading.

We also have numerous programs for parents, teachers, health care providers, and older struggling readers, and work to inform entire communities about dyslexia, reading failure, and the keys to reading success. Nemours BrightStart! measures its impact through scientific research and program evaluation. That way, we can show you how our programs are working, and add valuable knowledge about preparing young, at-risk children for future reading success.

With three mobile classrooms, Nemours BrightStart! programs can take place out in the community: child care centers, schools, and other locations where children and families gather, bringing the Nemours legacy of scientific and clinical expertise to you.
