Anesthesiology
The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Nemours Children’s Clinic - Jacksonville depends on board-certified anesthesiologists who have subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia. The department is complemented with a registered nurse who assists in coordinating pre-anesthetic evaluations and pain service. All members are dedicated to the total care and treatment of the pediatric patient. The department’s anesthesia practice is based in the state-of-the-art pediatric facility, Wolfson Children’s Hospital and ambulatory surgery center, which are fully equipped and staffed for the needs of children. The staff cares for 13,000 children annually in the operating room as well as in the cardiac catheterization lab, MRI suite, nuclear medicine, gamma knife suite, CT suite, invasive radiology, endoscopy suite and special procedures unit.
Team members are strongly bound to an educational mission as evidenced by a relationship with the Mayo Medical School, Rochester, Minnesota, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville and the University of Florida, Gainesville. The department has a fully accredited Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Program with Mayo Medical School, Rochester that accepts two trainees annually. The department members are current with the latest research and medical advances in part due to these academic affiliations.
The department has an acute pain service dedicated to the care and treatment of acute postoperative pain. The goal of these department members is to provide a consulting service for these children, their parents, and their primary physicians and nurses.
