October 24, 2009: Mayor's JAX Kids Day

Join Nemours BrightStart! at the Mayor’s JAX Kids Day at the Downtown Jacksonville Public Library. Nemours BrightStart! will have an information table inside the library to offer its free on-site reading readiness and dyslexia screenings, which take approximately 15 minutes and are very child-friendly. The screenings check for knowledge of print, letter names, sounds, and listening skills that support learning to read. Parents will also have the opportunity to talk with specially trained Nemours BrightStart! staff to learn about ways to support their young readers. Parents will also have a chance to register to win a Nemours BrightStart! stadium blanket and book bundle as well as a year family membership to the Jacksonville Zoo.

Please Note: Only children who have a parent/guardian present for signed consent will be allowed to be screened. Sign ups and consent forms will be available at the Nemours BrightStart! information table.

The Nemours BrighstStart! mobile classroom unit will be on site in Hemming Plaza along with BrightStart! staff to provide tours of the state-of-the-art mobile classrooms, as well as, provide free information, materials, and resources that empower parents of young children to become their child's first teacher.

JAX Kids Day, formerly known as the Mayor’s RALLY JAX Day, is part of the Mayor John Peyton’s Rally Jacksonville Initiative, aimed at providing all 4 year olds books and encouragement to become successful readers. For more information about this event, please visit the RALLY Jacksonville website.
