Fourth Quarter 2008

November 2008 contestants

Parenting Activity: Write to us about how you and your child made a book together. What did your child write about? How did you help encourage your child to use his or her imagination and positively guide the story?

“My child and I make a book together about her thoughts and feelings. [She] wrote about how mommy spends time with her when I get off work, and start our Learning Skills everyday at 6pm for 30 minutes. She also talks about how Christmas is here and toys under the tree. I encourage my daughter’s imagination by asking her what is she thinking, how is she feeling, and what does she want to do and when does she want to do it.”

Parenting Activity: Write to us about how you and your child made a book together. What did your child write about? How did you help encourage your child to use his or her imagination and positively guide the story?

“Because I am bringing a new baby into the house I felt like it would be best to write a child’s book on bringing home the baby. I knew that the girls are very excited and can’t wait till she comes home so I know it would be a good idea and a good way to work [the baby] into the family. My daughter wants her to sleep in her bed when she comes home and is always asking me will she be living with us forever. I always try to make her understand that yes she will but she just has to keep asking I guess to make sure.

“So as we begin to make our family book for the baby I let them both color over two pages so that it would be fare. After doing that I try my best to come up with some sentences for the book that they will understand. Then using their pictures for the cover and letters for magazines we created a beautiful book. Now I sorry to say it but I think I found myself being more into the project then them. I just love the thought of working together without me yelling stop.

“This program is really showing me how to interact with my kids without becoming impatient.”
