Hematology

The Hematology/Oncology Division at the Nemours Children’s Clinic - Jacksonville offers services in a broad range of blood (hematology) and cancer (oncology) diagnoses and treatments. Ongoing care is coordinated with the involvement of the child’s primary care physician. Patients with sickle cell disease and other blood-related diseases (hemoglobinopathies), as well as patients with bleeding disorders and complicated hematological disorders, are managed by the division’s pediatric hematologists/oncologists.

A multidisciplinary approach is utilized for children with cancer. Nemours Children’s Clinic - Jacksonville is one of a select group of nationwide institutions with a bone marrow transplant program. The Division of Hematology/Oncology also participates in the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a national group that provides state-of-the-art research protocols for the treatment of childhood cancer. Members of the division continue their active involvement in the development of new treatment protocols.

Diagnostic evaluation and treatment for children with anemia, platelet white cell disorders, and coagulation defects is also provided. The division offers a broad range of services for families, including psychological services, financial aid, and support groups.

The division partners with other subspecialists at Nemours and Wolfson Children’s Hospital to provide state-of-the-art care for these patients. Specific clinics exist for sickle cell disease, hemophilia, and long-term follow-up of children with cancer.
