Ophthalmology

The Division of Ophthalmology at the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville provides care to infants, children and adolescents. Common problems treated include ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity), Blocked Tear Ducts and Defects, Misaligned Eyes (Strabismus), Lazy Eye (Amblyopia), Drooping Eyelids (Ptosis) and Defects, Cataract and Glaucoma, Tumors inside the Eye (Retinoblastoma), Growths near the Eye (Cysts, etc.), Problems related to Genetic Diseases or Neurological Conditions, Injuries of or near the Eye, Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and other Retinal Dystrophies, Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses.

Special services and studies that may be required are also available, such as Retinal and Eye Photography, Visual Field Testing, and Ocular Ultrasonography.

Our team includes four Pediatric Ophthalmologists, our Pediatric Optometrist, and our experienced technicians. Many of the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residents elect to spend time with us in an observational status, taking advantage of our concentrated patient mix of problems that they may see once in practice. Consultations are done at nearby Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Emergency Department, and surgery is performed at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, either in the main operating room, or in the George Armstrong Outpatient Surgery Center just off campus.

In 2007, we have a larger, updated clinic on the 3rd floor of the main clinic building: 6,425 square feet, with 12 full-length examination lanes, auxiliary rooms for contact lens fitting, photography, visual field testing, special studies, surgical scheduling and other functions. New technology allows computerized photography, medical records, and communication with patients’ primary and referring physicians. Our location with all services at one facility, in a group of over 70 physicians providing a wide range of pediatric sub-specialty care, partnered with Wolfson Children’s Hospital for patients needing hospital services and surgery, allows a truly unique and complete experience for Pediatric Eye Care.
