Cystic Fibrosis Program
The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Program offers a comprehensive team approach for the treatment and management of children and young adults with cystic fibrosis. This Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-accredited program is a collaborative effort between the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Orlando and the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women.
The team includes four pediatric pulmonologists, two adult pulmonologists, a cystic fibrosis clinical nurse specialist, a genetic counselor, a gastroenterologist, a nutritionist, a respiratory therapist, a physical therapist, and a social worker. This dedicated team works together to meet the individual needs of each patient and provides patient and family education and support.

- Physical exams and health checks
- Nutritional screening and counseling
- Social work evaluation and support
- Respiratory therapy for airway clearance techniques
- Assessment by a physical therapist
- Referrals to genetic counselors
- Family education day (once a year)
- Educational materials provided during visits
- 24-hour patient coverage
- Pulmonary function testing
- Sweat testing
- Genotyping

Typical Diagnoses/Problems:
- Acute and chronic respiratory illnesses
- History of borderline or positive sweat test
- History of poor growth
- Recurrent respiratory infections
- Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis
- Chronic sinusitis or nasal polyps

The Cystic Fibrosis Program provides patients and families with a variety of educational pamphlets, videos, and lectures. Patients and their families may also contact the program office with specific questions. The program also sponsors an educational day once a year to teach patients and families about cystic fibrosis and its treatment.
