Nemours

Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology focuses on the care of infants, children, and adolescents with specific diagnoses and problems relating to the kidneys and bladder. Working side by side with additional specialists at the Nemours Children’s Clinic that include Pediatric Urologists, the nephrology staff is capable of offering the most up-to-date and effective treatment and care for the young patient. The Nephrology Division takes care of patients with problems such as hematuria, proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, urinary tract infections, renal (kidney) insufficiency, hypertension, diabetes-related kidney problems, collagen vascular disease, congenital (from birth) kidney abnormalities, kidney stones, and other acute and chronic kidney conditions. The department performs bladder ultrasounds on site and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. The division also offers acute dialysis and continuous hemofiltration. The End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) program includes chronic dialysis and kidney transplantation. Patients requiring hospitalization are admitted to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital. In addition to the clinical care the division provides in Orlando, its staff travels on a weekly basis to satellite clinics located in Lake Mary (Northeast of Orlando) and Viera (Southeast of Orlando). Two board certified Pediatric Nephrologists lead the Division. They receive clinical support from a RN, Medical Assistant, a part-time social worker and a Dietitian.
