Critical Care

The Division of Critical Care Medicine at the Nemours Children's Clinic in Pensacola consists of four full-time board-certified intensivists (an intensivist is a physician who specializes in the provision of care in the intensive care unit) and a critical-care registered nurse who provide pediatric critical-care services to the children at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital. The close partnership between Sacred Heart Children's Hospital and Nemours Children's Clinic in Pensacola allows the Clinic to provide high-quality pediatric tertiary care to a large and diverse geographic area. This partnership has allowed the Clinic to develop and be designated as one of the few freestanding regional pediatric trauma referral centers in the state.

The division also is involved in local, regional, and national activities such as child safety education, the development of pediatric facility standards, pediatric inter-facility transport standards, emergency medical services for children, and other important topics related to children's health.

The division is actively involved in teaching, working with pediatric staff from Florida State University to present regular conferences, and working to provide ongoing education for nurses, Emergency Medical Services personnel, and respiratory therapists.
