Hematology

The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Pensacola provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for children with who have hematological and oncologic diseases. The division frequently treats children with cancer (including leukemia) and a variety of hematological disorders (including sickle cell disease and bleeding disorders). Outpatient chemotherapy and intravenous infusion are provided in a kid-friendly environment.

In addition to patient care services, the division is also involved in clinical research in pediatric oncology.

The division consists of two physicians (one board certified) and 5 nurses. two board. Patients requiring hospitalization are admitted to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. The division receives referrals from primary care providers, family practice physicians, and pediatricians throughout northwest Florida and southern Alabama.

The Division of Hematology/Oncology also participates in the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), an international group that provides state-of-the-art research protocols for the treatment of childhood cancer. Members of the division continue their active involvement in the development of new treatment protocols. Specific clinics exist for sickle cell disease, hemophilia, and long-term follow-up of children with cancer.
