R. Jay Cummings, MD, was appointed Vice President in 2006, joining the Executive Team of Nemours. This medical leadership role includes responsibility over Nemours Children’s Clinic throughout Florida, with major locations in Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola. 

Dr. Cummings has served as Medical Director of the clinic site in Jacksonville where he has been since 1987, also having served as Division Chief of Orthopedics. He holds the academic title of Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedics, at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

Jay Cummings was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He completed an internship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and an orthopedic residency at the Combined Georgia Baptist-Scottish Rite Residency Training Program in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Cummings is a member of and served on the Board of Directors for the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He is also a member of numerous other professional groups such as the American Orthopaedic Association, the Scoliosis Research Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Societe International de Chirurgie Orthopedique et de Traumatologie.

He and his wife, Barbara, live in Jacksonville, Florida. They have three sons, Bradley, Spencer and Travis. He enjoys golfing, sailing and traveling.
