What makes Nemours Children's Hospital so unique?
Our patient-families have had a real voice in how care will be delivered, and in the design of our hospital and clinic.

In fact, in our Preview Center:

• Every chair has been sat on - and rated - by Mom 
• Every couch, Dad-tested
  
• Every bench bounced on by a child

So the furnishings in our new hospital will have been tested
and chosen by our patient-families. 

This kind of integration between our family-centered model of care and hospital/clinic architecture happens floor by floor and room by room, as you'll see when you visit the full-scale, interactive room models in our Preview Center.

Every detail is designed to create an environment that enhances communication between the family and caregiver, improves the quality and safety of patient care, and helps parents and children feel comfortable and in control.

Intensive Care Unit Inpatient Room and Medical Surgical Room

All rooms are private or single family and are divided into three zones to emphasize each important area of care space: provider care zone, patient care zone and family living zone within 330 square feet, which is much larger than typical hospital rooms. 

Patient care space features:

• Large-screen interactive TV with patient controls (education, communication, meal orders, room service, music, digital artwork)
• LED lighting control to allow the patient to 'paint' the room with color
• Full floor-to-ceiling windows providing natural light in each room
  with sun shade and blackout window shades
• Connections for TV, DVD player and game system
• Wardrobe storage for personal items
• Bathroom basin sink is designed so a baby could be bathed
• Tubs (available in some areas) allow for toddler bathing

Family living space features:

• Wireless internet access
• Mobile desk/dining table for in-room family dining
• Refrigerator
• Hotel-style safe for valuables
• Sleeper sofa and reclining chair
• Comfortable chairs
• Spacious, private baths
• Marker board for notes
• Storage for gifts/cards/flowers
• Personal lighting controls
• Parent pillow speaker with control of TV amenities

Outpatient Exam Rooms

• Configured to ensure the health care professional’s back is not
  to the child and family when entering data
• Designed for privacy by avoiding views of the patient from
  the corridor even if the door to the room is ajar
• Space for two family members and a stroller
• Marker board available for notes

Emergency Department Exam Room

• Indirect lighting
• TV controls from the pillow speaker
• Seating for two
• Walls on all sides, not curtains, for enhanced privacy
