One-third of the nation’s fourth graders score below the basic level in reading, however nearly all children can become successful readers ‑‑ especially when a child’s risk of developing reading problems is found early. National Organizations

Reach Out and Read (ROR) is an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Mid-Atlantic Organizations

Philadelphia Reads works with individuals, schools, community and faith-based organizations and businesses to provide mentors, resources and advocacy for in-school, after school and summer programs.

Florida Organizations

Nemours BrightStart! provides leadership, advocacy, research and services to help put children on the road to reading success. This pioneering reading-readiness program is available in Florida and Delaware.

Florida Literacy Coalition promotes, supports and advocates for the effective delivery of quality adult and family literacy services in the state of Florida. As a statewide umbrella literacy organization and the host of Florida’s State Literacy Resource Center, FLC provides a range of services to support more than 300 adult education, literacy and family literacy providers throughout Florida.
