The Nemours’ Critical Care experts evaluate and treat the most critically ill children in the hospital. Because of their outstanding expertise, the team is capable of treating an emergency situation on a moment’s notice. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, we’re there when your child needs us most.
Our doctors are board certified in several specialties, such as pediatrics, critical care medicine, and anesthesiology. We provide advanced life support and continuous monitoring for critically ill children who require admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
In addition to our physicians, the Critical Care team consists of highly trained advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, pharmacists, registered dietitians, rehabilitation experts, social workers, and respiratory care staff. Together, we’re able to provide state-of-the-art care in a family-centered intensive care unit that is respectful of patient and family needs.
Some of the conditions that might require our expertise include:

We also have a dedicated pediatric critical care transport team that promotes safe and efficient transport of critically ill children to our unit by ground or air.
Our staff has immediate access to Nemours experts from any number of relevant subspecialties. Extensive consultation is available with pediatric rehabilitative services, orthopedics, stem cell transplantation, solid organ transplantation, neurology, genetics, and cardiology, among others. We also engage in laboratory, pre-clinical, and clinical trials of evolving therapies to maintain a state-of-the-art approach to critical care.
