Nemours Hospital Pediatrics consists of skilled pediatricians and nurses who specialize in hospital-based care. This team cares for patients from the time they are admitted to the time of discharge, and is part of a branch of medicine that is one of the fastest growing medical specialties.
Hospital pediatricians, also called “hospitalists,” are board-certified doctors who provide care for hospitalized children who need treatment for illnesses such as asthma, croup, gastroenteritis, dehydration, infections (such as cellulitis, pneumonia or kidney infections), as well as unexplained abdominal pain and persistent headaches. They also treat children who have medical problems associated with chronic illness.
During your child’s stay in the hospital, the hospitalist may serve as your child’s attending physician overseeing the care your child receives while also providing careful coordination of services and communication with the referring or primary care physician, as well as any other consultants your child may need to see. This sharing of information is managed through the use of an electronic medical record that allows all consulting doctors access to the latest information about your child’s medical care, test results, and plans for management.
Our team continually strives to improve the care of hospitalized children and ensure a smooth transition to outpatient care.
