Killingsworth Appointed Special Advisor to President's Council

Richard Killingsworth

Newark, DE — Richard Killingsworth, Senior Advisor for Nemours Health & Prevention Services, has been appointed special advisor to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition for one year. In this role, he will be assisting the Council in several areas including the National Physical Activity Plan, the America’s Great Outdoors initiative, and other efforts that complement and enhance the First Lady’s Let’s Move! campaign. Killingsworth will continue to serve in his role with Nemours, but in a capacity that supports both the Council and mission of Nemours during this one-year assignment.

Killingsworth has been an active supporter of and participant in the President’s Council efforts for more than 20 years. He is recognized nationally as an expert in designing communities for better health and, as a result, has collaborated with many federal and state agencies, government officials, and private sector leaders. Killingsworth was tapped for his breadth of experience and his ability to collaborate and partner with many organizations to help the Council achieve its agenda.

The original President’s Council on Physical Fitness was established under President Eisenhower in 1956. It began as a national initiative to test and encourage physical fitness in school children. The scope of the Council has broadened since then, and more recently nutrition was added to their mission. This is the first time since the Council’s inception that an advisor has been used to assist in their national program deployment. Killingsworth said he is "honored and looks forward to the opportunity to represent Nemours in this capacity and assist the President's Council in the very important mission of getting our nation more invested in physical activity and nutrition."

Killingsworth further explained that his long established relationship with the President's Council and state Governor's Councils have prepared him for this exciting assignment. He said that his role as advisor, which will involve extensive interaction with national, state, and local organizations throughout the U.S., will help "position Nemours as a leader in health promotion working toward the goal of an active and healthier nation."
