Wilmington, DE — This month, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children received a gift of $140,779 from the Kohl’s Cares® program.

For the sixth year in a row, this generous grant from Kohl’s Department Stores will be used to enhance the hospital’s injury prevention education programs to local communities.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23, duPont Hospital for Children and Kohl’s hosted a family fun day at the Kohl's store on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington, DE.

The donation was presented by Kohl’s district manager David Ikkala to duPont Hospital for Children’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Paul Kempinski, and was followed by activities throughout the store. The hospital’s Trauma and Injury Prevention staff was onsite to educate children and families about common safety concerns.

Over the past six years, Kohl's has donated $633,992 to Nemours, helping to fund the Kohl’s Healthy Kids Program, develop educational materials on injury prevention, and sponsor safety events for children and families.

“We are grateful to Kohl’s for this generous gift and for their ongoing commitment to keeping Delaware’s children healthy and safe. We truly appreciate and value this partnership and the support of the Kohl’s organization,” said Paul Kempinski, COO, duPont Hospital for Children.

Kohl's commitment to duPont Hospital for Children is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $150 million dollars through this merchandise program.

In addition, Kohl's Cares® features a scholarship program, which recognizes more than 2,100 young volunteers with a total of $410,000 in scholarships and prizes this year; the Associates in Action program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provided more than $10 million in grants to youth-focused nonprofit organizations last year alone; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.
