Nemours Children's Hospital Posts Nearly 600 Jobs to Website

Local Parents Help Interview Candidates at New Hospital

Orlando

Eight months before the grand opening of Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, job seekers will have an opportunity to apply for specific positions. Nemours has announced that the nearly 600 position descriptions will be posted along with an opportunity to apply over this coming weekend. The positions may be found in the careers section of the Nemours website.

The 596 job opportunities at Nemours Children’s Hospital range from phone operators and greeters to physicians and nurses.

“When Nemours says it is seeking the best of the best, it is about more than just education and training,” said Roger Oxendale, CEO of Nemours Children’s Hospital. “We want every one of our Nemours Associates to hold the value that families and patients are at the very center of everything we do. At Nemours, we believe families are just as important as any member of the medical team.”

Nemours has an innovative method to ensure new associates truly believe in family-centered care: parents are interviewing finalists for leadership positions. The Nemours Family Advisory Council is made up of local moms and dads, many of whom have children with chronic health conditions.

“When we say Nemours is a hospital built for families by families it is about more than the structure of the hospital. Our families are also helping to build the team who will work at Nemours Children’s Hospital,” Oxendale said.

For months, job seekers have been able to post their resume to one of 16 job categories. The opportunity has attracted nearly 11,000 resumes.

“The most popular category is ‘secretarial/administrative’, which has attracted 3,923 resumes over the last year,” said Rick Kennedy, Senior Human Resources Business Partner for Nemours.  “We will be posting 200 positions within that category over the weekend; these include clerical workers, registration clerks, greeters and medical secretaries.”

Nemours will use a team of eight associate and physician recruiters and coordinators to identify the best job candidates. In many cases, they will use an applicant tracking system, which flags the resumes of candidates who possess the skill set needed for a particular position. Nemours has trained hiring managers in "behavioral interviewing," a process that will help managers determine whether a candidate is a good cultural and behavioral fit for the organization.

Nemours Children’s Hospital will open its doors to patients on October 22, 2012, in Lake Nona’s Medical City, near the Orlando International Airport. The 630,000 square-foot building has a capacity for 137 beds but will open with 50. It sits next to the University of Central Florida Health Sciences Campus, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, and the University of Florida Academic and Research Center.
