The 2-year Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Fellowship Training Program, affiliated with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), provides knowledge and skills to pursue a career as a specialist treating children and adults with allergy, asthma, and immune system disorders.
You will be exposed to a diverse patient population of all ages, in a wide range of clinical settings. You will also have support and encouragement to pursue basic science and clinical research efforts.

The Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) program stimulates critical thinking and can help prepare you with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a career as a specialist in the field. Based at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, the 2-year program gives you balanced clinical and research experiences primarily in pediatric allergy, asthma, and immunology.
Clinical Experiences
You will gain experience with the evaluation and management of a wide variety of allergy and immunology diagnoses including– asthma, food and environmental allergies, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic disorders, urticaria, angioedema, drug allergy, anaphylaxis, autoimmune diseases, immune deficiency, and transplant-immunology.
You will have the opportunity to perform food allergy testing and challenges, drug allergy testing, challenges and desensitizations, and immunotherapy prescription writing. In addition, we are currently the only referral center in the state of Delaware for newborn SCID screening. Throughout your fellowship you will attend weekly educational conferences that include a series of didactic lectures to give you a thorough foundation in the basics and a chance to review interesting patient cases.
You will have voluntary opportunities to participate in related clinical rotations such as otolaryngology, pulmonology, dermatology, infectious disease or rheumatology and will be exposed to rhinoscopy in pediatric and adult clinics. You will play an active role in educating and training pediatric residents at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and will supervise medical students from Jefferson Medical College and other area medical schools.
You will be provided with the necessary tools to prepare for the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) exam as evidenced by the ongoing success of our fellows on these exams. During your 2 years, you will rotate monthly among four core rotations that will provide you with the necessary pediatric/adult clinical experience and research opportunities.
Research
We believe in the value of significant and meaningful research as a key component in fellowship training. As your training progresses, the research component will take on an increasing priority in the curriculum. Following an early and thorough review of research design, methodologies, and related topics, you’ll be encouraged and supported in your own efforts in both basic science and clinical research.
You’ll have use of our state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, along with appropriate guidance from faculty and staff. Fellows and faculty teams have submitted multiple NIH grants.
Throughout your training you will be engaged in cutting edge research in Allergy and Immunology. The faculty is motivated and supportive of the fellows’ research and has ongoing projects that encompass many aspects of the field. We can tailor your fellowship research to include subject matter that may be of particular interest to you. We expect our fellows to be productive in research and to achieve at least two publications during their fellowship.

The duPont Hospital for Children is a multi-specialty, tertiary care teaching institution located on a 300-acre estate in the scenic Brandywine Valley in Wilmington, DE.
