Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Awarded FACT Accreditation
The Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has received internationally-recognized accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
FACT is an accrediting body for hospitals and medical institutions offering stem cell transplant, and indicates the accredited institution has met the most rigorous standards in every aspect of stem cell therapy. This covers the entire spectrum of stem cell therapy, from clinical care to donor management, cell collection, processing, storage, transportation, administration, and cell release.
FACT standards are defined by leading experts based on the latest knowledge in the field of cellular therapy transplantation. Nemours has been found to be in compliance with these rigorous standards, as well as governmental regulations.
The accreditation process involves an on-site inspection of the facility, as well as a review of documents submitted prior to inspection. The hospital and its marrow collection facility were found to have no deficiencies or variances, which is quite rare for an initial application. “By achieving FACT accreditation, Nemours is informing patients, medical professionals, health insurance companies, and the government that it exceeds standards in patient care and laboratory practices,” said Danielle Perry, MPH, Program and Accreditation Manager, Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
In addition, FACT accreditation is used in determining the U.S. News & World Report rankings of transplant centers for the "America's Best Hospitals" and "America's Best Children's Hospitals" lists.
“We pursued this accreditation because we believe it demonstrates our commitment to excellence and is another way we can let families know that our hospital is always striving to achieve the highest level of care for children,” said E. Anders Kolb, MD, Director, Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
