Willowdale Art Academy Students Donate Artwork to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children

Art instructor Karen D’Allaird and a group of students from the Willowdale Art Academy in Kennett Square, PA, recently visited the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children to donate a large group project to the hospital’s pediatric cancer unit.

D’Allaird said the students were studying color and were inspired by the artist Jackson Pollack to create a 4' x 8' "splatter" art piece and donate the work to the hospital.

"I think it would be hard to pass by this colorful, dynamic work done by kids and not smile," D’Allaird said.

Anders Kolb, MD, Director of the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation Program, accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital. “This is a wonderful, vivid piece and we’re delighted to display it. When children come for chemotherapy and treatment, it is important to ease their anxiety and pain to the extent possible and we firmly believe in art as therapy.”
