Internship Opportunities

For Accredited Programs only (must have contract on file)

  1. CODING:
    Receive hands on experience to the world of inpatient coding.  The student will be exposed to the coding processes of emergency room visits and procedures, outpatient surgery, and inpatient coding.
  2. ABSTRACTING:
    Learn how to transfer information from a paper format to an electronic format. (Scan in referring physician paperwork, new patient questionnaires, and audiograms, imaging reports, etc. Hand-key lab values, impressions, etc.)  Understand the impact of not entering the information both efficiently and accurately.
  3. TRANSCRIPTION:
    Learn how to transcribe medical information using the AAMT Book of Style as a guideline.  Work with DVI/Lanier (dictation systems) and Medrite (transcription system).  Learn how these systems interact with the electronic medical record.
  4. RELEASE OF INFORMATION:
    Learn how to receive, log, fulfill, and bill release of information requests.  Learn about all the regulatory aspects of releasing information.  Learn how we maintain integrity with a hybrid record (paper and electronic).
  5. MANAGEMENT:
    Learn the different aspects of being an HIM Manager (budgets, scheduling, regulations, policy writing, safety, risk management, etc.)
