St. Michael’s School and Nursery, an NHPS community partner, has served families living and working in the Wilmington area for more than 100 years. As a leader in early education, St. Michael’s provides a safe, healthy, nurturing environment balanced with an intellectually stimulating academic program for children aged six weeks through six years. The school is the oldest provider of full-time child care in Delaware and has offered kindergarten since 1908.
St. Michael’s collaborated with NHPS to pilot a series of policy and practice changes, including the creation of a healthy-beginning nutrition program designed to serve two nutritious meals and snacks that meet the federal guidelines for subsidized meals and education for parents and children on the 5-2-1-Amost None formula for a healthy lifestyle. St. Michael’s has been recognized by the Governor of Delaware as a leader for educational practices and policies in support of children. St. Michael’s was also honored by the Jesse Ball duPont foundation for its leadership in educational practices.
