2005 Milestones
The Sussex Coalition is established with 14 starting partner organizations; a collaborative learning series for the coalition begins. At a press conference, NHPS introduces 5-2-1-Almost None and its sector-based approach.
A satellite office is established in Seaford.
Healthy eating/physical activity workshops are launched for child care center directors and providers; four child care pilot sites begin promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles based on 5-2-1-Almost None principles. GrowUpHealthy.org is launched.
Pilot work with primary care practices begins; the role of Health Navigator is established to link families to community resources.
The Growing Healthy Kids 10-week behavior change program is piloted with a group of children and families referred from Sussex County primary care offices.
NHPS’ work with schools accelerates through 11 school action teams; NHPS and Secretary of Education Valerie Woodruff discuss the path forward for improving school wellness.
In response to climbing rates of infant mortality in Delaware and in partnership with the Division of Public Health, NHPS conducts a Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) and issues a report of the findings.
NHPS holds its first Conference on Child Health Promotion at the Hotel DuPont; the Vision Awards are established at the conference to recognize excellence in child health promotion and disease prevention.
NHPS publishes its first Chartbook, a statistical summary focusing on childhood obesity prevalence and the factors contributing to it.
