Riverfest Premieres New 5-2-1 Almost None Pirate Theme
On Saturday, July 14, NHPS hosted “Pirate Island,” which introduced the pirate-themed campaign to promote the 5-2-1-Almost None message at the 13th Annual Nanticoke Riverfest in Seaford, Delaware. The event was kicked off with the arrival of “authentic” pirates arriving by boat and parading from the Nanticoke River to the new pirate-themed obstacle course. Over 300 youngsters (and some adults!) bounced through the course on hippity-hop balls, learning about the 5-2-1 Almost None healthy lifestyle at each station along the way. After finishing the course, participants were given 5-2-1-Almost None “pirate booty bag” of fruit, water, a pirate bandana, and a tip sheet. The goal of the event was to show parents and kids how easy it is to live the 5-2-1-Almost None lifestyle. “We had one of our largest showings with young people. The course, while small, is challenging even for adults,” commented NHPS Intern, Alex DeMarino.
NHPS would like to thank all of the volunteers from Seaford and the Sussex Coalition who donated their time to make this event possible, and Wawa, who donated 1,000 bottles of water for the event.
This is the first of many activities that will be tied to our social marketing campaign, the goal of which is to "Make Delawares Kids the Healthiest in the Nation." Stay tuned for more information about events, contests, advertising, and other aspects of the campaign.
