Dover, DE: Nemours Health and Prevention Services was represented at the first Delaware Bike Summit held by the state’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) on Friday, April 24, 2009 in Dover. About 275 people ranging from cycling enthusiasts to urban planners convened to discuss ways to make Delaware more bike-friendly.

Speakers, including Patti Miller of NHPS, emphasized the health, economic, and environmental benefits of building roads that can safely accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. At the summit, Governor Markell signed an executive order to implement Complete Streets – whenever DelDOT embarks on projects to build or maintain roads or bridges in the future, all modes of transportation, including cycling and walking, will be considered.

Nemours Health & Prevention Services, a division of Nemours, one of the nation's largest pediatric health systems, works with families and community partners to help children grow up healthy. One of its initial areas of emphasis is childhood obesity prevention through the promotion of healthy lifestyles, the centerpiece of which is the 5-2-1-Almost None campaign.
