South Carolina Legislature Considers Mandatory Recess for Students
The South Carolina Senate’s Education subcommittee is considering a proposal that would make daily 20-minute recess mandatory for elementary school students. The proposal was made by an 18-year-old high school student.

A Johns Hopkins University study published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine found that kids who rollerblade or skateboard regularly stay fit longer than those who play organized, often seasonal, sports.

Time spent in gym class is unlikely to negatively impact academic pursuits of school-age children. In fact, researchers at the Centers for Disease Control found that, on average, girls who spent more time in gym class performed better academically than those who got little or no physical education.
