Report: DE Kids Watch Too Much TV, Get Too Little Activity, Have Few Safe Places to Play
NHPS commissioned Lake Research Partners to conduct a statewide survey with more than 800 Delaware parents about obesity, fitness, and nutrition issues among the state’s children. The poll explored parents’ views of these issues and their opinions about various policy options to fight obesity in children and teens. According to the poll results,
- More than half of Delaware’s school-aged children watch two or more hours of television daily. Of children aged 3 to 5, more than a third are spending three or more hours a day in front of the television.
- Only four in ten Delaware parents say their children are spending an hour or more per day engaged in some form of physical activity.
- Nearly three in five parents surveyed are not satisfied that their children have enough access to safe places to play and be active.
