Devereux Early Childhood Assessment Ratings from Parents and Teachers in Delaware Finds Gaps Between Parent and Teacher Observations of Children's Behaviors
In this new report, NHPS presents new, Delaware-specific information on the views of parents and child care teachers about social-emotional wellness in young children.
The report analyzes Devereux Early Childhood Assessments (DECA) completed by parents and teachers in Delaware for a sample of 474 preschool children, predominantly in Head Start and Early Childhood Assistance Programs, and finds that parents and teachers agree on the prevalence of strengths or positive behaviors observed in children far more than they agree on the prevalence of behavior problems. Parents completing the assessments observed nearly twice the rate of problem behaviors in the children than teachers.
