Procedure Day
A parent/legal guardian must accompany the patient on the day of the procedure. Please bring proof of guardianship, if applicable. Other arrangements may be made for consent with the Sedation Team. While we make every attempt for you to stay with your child during the appointment, we may ask you to step out of the room during the study. If this occurs, then the Sedation Team will guide you through this process. Additionally, we ask that a parent/guardian remain in the hospital during tests and procedures so any additional questions can be addressed.
What To Expect
- Check in at the Medical Imaging/Day Medicine desk (1st floor).
- The Sedation Nurse and Doctor or Advanced Practice Nurse will assess your child and obtain consent. This includes taking your child’s blood pressure and weight, asking you the last time your child had something to eat and drink, and reviewing general health questions. Often an IV will be started during this assessment. Sedation medication may be given prior to taking your child to the procedure area.
- Some medications will make your child sleepy most of the day. Plan to watch your child closely for the rest of the day.
