Recovery Time

Hospital

  • Once the test is done, your child will be taken to our recovery area.
  • Your child will stay in recovery until he/she is awake and able to eat crackers and/or drink juice. It may take a child two or more hours to wake up.
  • A nurse in the recovery area will review discharge instructions with you.
  • Your child’s balance will be affected. Plan on bringing a stroller or we can provide a wagon or wheelchair to take your child from the recovery room to the hospital exit. An extra adult is helpful for the ride home.

Home

  • Your child will need to be closely watched for the rest of the day, preferably at your home.
  • Encourage light foods, like crackers and juice, for the rest of the day. Avoid fast food.
  • Your child will not act like his/herself for the day and may be off balance. A quiet activity, like watching TV, is best. For your child’s safety, sports or contact activities should be avoided for the rest of the day.
  • By the next day your child should return to their usual activities.
