Division of
Department of Pediatrics, Delaware Valley
The Division of Developmental Pediatrics at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, provides diagnostic evaluation, treatment plans, and therapy for infants, preschoolers, and school-age children, who may have a wide variety of developmental or behavioral problems. Our emphasis is on the evaluation of the child from infancy to age 6, but older children may be accepted as well.
We provide excellent care that places the patient and family at the center – and we believe that communication is central to the process. We strive to treat every child as we would our own and to bring peace of mind to patients and their families.
Our developmental pediatricians are fellowship trained in general pediatrics, neuro-developmental disabilities, and developmental and behavioral medicine. We evaluate neurologic, genetic, and general medical factors affecting children’s development. In addition, our medical staff screens children for age-appropriate developmental levels and psychosocial factors that may contribute to the presenting problem. The medical staff may recommend further, in-depth multidisciplinary evaluation, if indicated.
Our caregivers use an integrated medical record that unifies patient care across specialties and locations and prompts caregivers to consider best practices gained from Nemours' experience and academic literature. We also emphasize primary physician involvement in patient’s long-term care and work closely with the Divisions of Neurology, Behavioral Health, and Rehabilitation Medicine.
Recommended treatment may include:
- supportive counseling and anticipatory guidance
- medical treatment of specific developmental problems
- follow-up monitoring of developmental progress
A trans-disciplinary feeding and swallowing disorders program is also uniquely
able to evaluate children with dysphagia.
Best Doctors in America®: Only 5% of doctors practicing in the United States are selected for the annual list.
