Division of Rheumatology
Our Division of Rheumatology strives to provide children with inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases superior care in a supportive environment.
With three board-certified pediatric rheumatologists, in addition to
a professor emeritus, we care for patients with a wide variety of
diseases including, but not limited to:
- Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
- ankylosing spondylitis/enthesitis-related arthritis
- psoriatic arthritis
- Lyme arthritis
- scleroderma
- systemic lupus erythematosus
- vasculitis
- Sjogren’s syndrome
As the educational arm of Jefferson Medical College, we offer:
- Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) of Jefferson medical students
- Graduate Medical Education (GME) of pediatric residents
- Medical education for visiting fellows, medical students, and physician assistant students
- Fellowship program in Pediatric Rheumatology
Our areas of research expertise include:
- Gene expression profiling in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
- Blau syndrome
Our rheumatology research includes translational research studying the inflamed cells which line the joints in arthritis (synoviocytes) and studies on granulomatous arthritis and Blau syndrome.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) awarded duPont Hospital for Children the Stage 7 Award.
Stage 7 represents achievement of the highest level on the EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM) – used to track electronic medical record progress at hospitals and health systems. Nemours is one of 59 (or 1.1%) of the more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database recognized by HIMSS Analytics with its Stage 7 Award.
Nemours also received the HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence for
helping pioneer the use of electronic medical records in pediatric health.
The award recognizes leadership in the implementation and use of health information technology to improve patient care and medical outcomes.
