Research
The Division of Emergency Medicine has successfully advanced many of their projects to publication. The focus of the group remains on clinical and practical issues in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. Examples of areas of clinical research include clinical aspects of the young child with fever: the risk for bacterial infections, clinical syndromes associated with viral pathogens in the young child, and streptococcal pharyngitis. These studies represent a range of methodologies, including outcome research, redefinition of likelihood ratios, and diagnostic abilities of tests and/or clinical predictive models.
Currently, data are being collected for follow-up studies of the above three topics. Other projects are undergoing IRB review and are related to quality improvement and assessment.
