Pediatric Otolaryngology Program Description

The Division of Otolaryngology (ENT) is staffed by board certified physicians who provide consultation and treatment of inpatients and outpatients. The physicians work closely with a team of specially-trained pediatric anesthesiologists to perform approximately 800 tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies and more than 3,200 bilateral myringotomies annually.

Diagnoses for children with special problems of the ears, mouth, nose, throat and sinuses are offered, as well as medical and surgical treatments. Commonly encountered problems include infections in the ear, nose, sinus and throat; hearing loss; airway problems; foreign body aspiration; and head and neck masses. Hearing evaluations are available through the Department of Communicative Disorders, which works closely with the Division. The Division also operates the Cochlear Implant and Auditory Rehabilitation Program for children with sensorineural hearing loss, as well as multidisciplinary evaluation of balance and gait disorders through the Vestibular and Balance Disorders Program. Specialists include members of the Cleft Palate Craniofacial Team, which provides evaluation and treatment of cleft palate.
