V. Practice-Based Learning & Improvement

The pediatric gastroenterology fellow will be able to use scientific methods and evidence to investigate, evaluate and improve patient care practices.

Objectives:

By the end of the first year of fellowship training, the following are expected.

  1. Each fellow takes primary responsibility for lifelong learning to improve knowledge, skills and practice performance. This can be accomplished through periodic literature review, journal clubs, and attendance at Grand Rounds and pediatric GI conferences at the local and national levels.
  2. Each fellow participates in any quality assurance and continual improvement program offered at AIDHC.
  3. Each fellow continually analyzes one’s practice experience, recognize strengths, deficiencies and limits to knowledge and expertise and discuss concerns with the program director so that deficiencies can be addressed and rectified.
  4. Each fellow uses performance evaluations provided by peers, patients, supervisors and the program director to improve practice.

By the end of the 2nd and 3rd year of fellowship training, the following are expected.

It would be second nature for the fellow to continue lifelong learning through periodic literature review, journal clubs, and attendance at Grand Rounds and pediatric GI conferences at the local and national levels.
