IV. Professionalism
The pediatric gastroenterology fellow will demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, and sensitivity to diversity.
Objectives:
By the end of the first year of fellowship training, the following are expected
- Each fellow accepts responsibility for patient care including continuity of care.
- Each fellow demonstrates respect, honesty, compassion and integrity; a responsiveness to the needs of patients and society that supercedes self-interest; accountability to patients, society and the profession; a commitment to excellence and on-going professional development.
- Each fellow demonstrates a commitment to ethical principles pertaining to provision or withholding of clinical care, confidentiality of patient information, informed consent and business practices.
- Each fellow demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to the patient’s culture, age, gender and disabilities.
By the end of the 2nd and 3rd years of fellowship training, the following are expected.
The fellow will continue to exhibit and hone professionalism in the daily scope of practice.
