VI. Systems-Based Practice
The pediatric gastroenterology fellow will practice quality health care and advocate for patients in the health care system.
Objectives:
By the end of the first year of fellowship training, the following are expected.
- Each fellow knows the types of medical practice and delivery/insurance systems that differ from one another and how they impact health care costs, quality assurance and allocation of resources.
- Each fellow practices cost-effective health care and resource allocation without compromising quality of care.
- Each fellow is an advocate for quality patient care and assist patients in dealing with system complexities.
- Each fellow learned how to work with health care managers and health care providers to assess, coordinate, and improve patient care.
- Each fellow learned how to advocate for the promotion of health and prevention of disease and injury.
- Each fellow assists in the development of systems to help prevent medical errors.
Review and revision of the goals and objectives:
The goals and objectives of the program will be reviewed and revised on a yearly basis. The faculty, trainees and staff will meet annually to discuss the program. Appropriate suggestions for revisions will be implemented. Senior trainees will be instrumental in helping to implement changes.
