B. Outpatient Rotations
Fellows will have one half-day outpatient clinics weekly throughout the fellowship, even when the Fellow has inpatient responsibilities. All patients will be seen in the Rainbow module. Other members of the outpatient clinic team include the supervising Attending, nurse practitioners, and rotating pediatric residents and medical students. If one half-day clinic weekly is insufficient for the Fellow to see follow-ups in a timely manner, there is the capability of adding a second half-day Fellow continuity clinic each week. When the Fellow is not on the inpatient service, the Fellow is welcome to perform scheduled outpatient procedures with any of the Attending. All fellows will have an opportunity to participate in IBD clinic. Each fellow will be assigned an IBD clinic session monthly to attend.
Charting: Outpatient visits will be documented via the Epic system. All Fellows will receive training on how to use this system.
Outpatient phone calls: The Fellow is expected to field all calls from patients they have initially evaluated in the clinic. Questions and concerns that the patient or the patient’s parents raise need to be discussed with the primary Attending of the patient (as much as possible) to determine the appropriate intervention. Phone encounters will be documented in the Epic system. It is expected that each fellow will check his/her Epic mailbox at least twice a day, in particular prior to leaving for the day, to ensure that patient phone calls are returned in an expeditious manner.
