Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is proud to offer two pediatric specialty residency positions. A specialty residency in pediatric pharmacy practice is an organized, directed postgraduate program that will focus on developing the competencies necessary to provide pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients. The goal of the program is to provide the pharmacist with the skills necessary to function independently as a member of the healthcare team who will share in the responsibility of providing optimal drug therapy to pediatric patients.  The program began in July 2003 and follows the Residency Learning System (RLS) Model developed by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). ASHP accreditation is pending.

The specialty residency in pediatrics consists of training in 6 core areas: general pediatrics, ambulatory care, clinical research, hematology/oncology and pediatric and neonatal intensive care. The resident also has their choice of 3 elective rotations in various pediatric specialties including bone marrow transplantation, solid organ transplantation, cardiology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology/nutrition, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology, rehabilitation medicine, rheumatology, emergency medicine, clinical research, and pharmacy administration.  The resident also has opportunities for educational activities including precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students, providing didactic lectures for the advance practice nurses and medical residents, and delivering in-services for pharmacy staff, house staff and nursing staff. The resident will be required to complete at least one major project to be presented at a regional (Eastern States Residency Conference) or national level (Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group Conference). Residents are required to staff 24 hours per month for the pharmacy department. Benefits include 25 paid days off, paid holidays, health, dental, life and short-term disability insurance, healthcare and dependent care spending accounts, 403(b) retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, uniform/reference book allowance, and travel allowance for approved conferences. Salary $37,500.
