Rheumatology
Applicants to the Pediatric Rheumatology fellowship are required to complete a three year residency in general pediatrics. This is a three year fellowship program, as outlined in the requirements for certification by the American Board of Pediatrics. The focus of the first year is clinical, with fellows seeing patients, under supervision, in the out-patient clinic, emergency room, and in-patient and intensive care units. The second and third years are research oriented, with 80% protected research time and 20% clinical time consisting of continuity clinic and new patients.
We currently have agreements with Thomas Jefferson University and the National Institutes of Health to provide research opportunities to our trainees for the second and third years. We have two Pediatric Rheumatologists on staff, in addition to Dr. Balu Athreya, an emeritus professor, available to mentor our trainees. We will have one trainee every three years.
The next trainee will begin July 1, 2006. Applications for this position should be submitted by August 2005.
