Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children

AIDHCThe Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is a full-service children's hospital located in Wilmington, Delaware. It offers all major specialties and subspecialties of pediatric medicine, surgery, and dentistry. With over 240 full-time pediatricians and subspecialists and a community-based medical and surgical staff of 250, the hospital has evolved from a small orthopedic facility into a tertiary referral center for pediatrics. The hospital has become a national leader in cardiac surgery, solid organ transplant, pediatric cardiology and other specialties. On the former estate of namesake Alfred I. duPont, the hospital grounds are attractive and appealing to patients, visitors, and staff alike.

The hospital has 180 beds, including:

  • 98 medical/surgical beds
  • a 22-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU)
  • a 9-bed surgical neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
  • a 20-bed rehabilitation unit (one of the region's largest)
  • a 23-bed cardiac care unit

Libraries

LibraryA medical library is available at Jefferson and duPont Hospital, including the noted Scott Memorial Library and its JEFFLINE computer link to 10 other major libraries. Evidence based medicine is emphasized in all teaching conferences. Residents gain practical experience in evidence based medicine via conferences and journal clubs that emphasize the ability to research and answer a focused clinical question. Residents gain knowledge using various search engines and on-line resources.

Jefferson Medical College/Thomas Jefferson University

Thomas Jefferson University is one of the countrys oldest and most respected academic institutions. With over 6,000 full-time employees, Jefferson is among the largest medical centers in the Philadelphia area. The university includes: The Health Services Division, including the 707-bed teaching hospital TJUThe Medical College The College of Graduate Studies The College of Allied Health Sciences.

More than 25,000 physicians have graduated from Jefferson in its 175-year history. A recent article in U.S. WORLD AND NEWS REPORT identified Jefferson as the top medical school in the country among schools whose chief mission is training primary care doctors.

The Christiana Care Health System

Christiana CareThe nearby Christiana Care Health System is among the nations' leaders in newborn deliveries. Supporting the busy obstetric service is a 70-bed special care nursery taking care of both critically ill and transitional newborns. This setting provides excellent training in new born care and neonatal intensive care for our pediatric residents. Jefferson and Christiana Care Health System have a long-standing teaching affiliation.
