The 8th annual Asthma Day was held on November 17th at duPont /Jefferson pediatrics in Philadelphia. Asthma day is an event aimed to provide education and awareness about asthma for the children of Philadelphia. The pediatric residents and members of Nemours public relations at A.I. duPont Hospital host the event and multiple residents participated that day. Drs. Julie Ryan, Amanda Micucio and Michelle Marseca talked to the children about asthma medications. Drs. Mary Bove and Andy Calabria played asthma games showing kids how our lungs change during an asthma attack. The children had fun with Drs. Meghann Pine, Kristen Wheilhan, Katie Giordano and Laura Shank who painted the children’s faces while Drs. Sarah Perry, Morgan Leafe and Liz Gabriele manned the pizza booth. Everyone was entertained that day by a prevention rapper “Ain’t No Puff Daddy” and a juggler Jonathan Perry. Anne Wright from public relations was on hand to give out free asthma DVDs and talk about Nemours. The duPont at Jefferson nurses gave free flu shots to all the children despite some sad faces and Jefferson respiratory therapists cleaned their nebulizers.Drs. Dan Walmsley, Sarah Perry and Morgan Leafe coordinated the event with special help from Nemours Public Relations and Nona Bloom. All children and participatants had a great time and breathed easier “wheeze free” at the end of the day.
