Orientation
We realize that beginning your residency can be intimidating! Orientation establishes the foundation for your residency. The event is kicked off with a social dinner at the Program Director’s home the night before orientation begins. This gives you a chance to get to know your classmates in a more casual setting. During orientation you will receive training in Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program and a hands on clinical skills workshop. Brief overviews given by representatives from pharmacy, medical records, nursing, continuity clinic, the hospitalist program, and risk management, provide interns with the contacts necessary to be successful. Luncheons and/or welcome dinners are scheduled with attendings and staff at each site, followed by tours. The Chief Residents have dinner one evening where you will receive your schedule, ask questions and learn about the day to day expectations. Orientation ends with a “shadow” day with you working side by side for the morning with the team you will be with the following day. We promise, you’ll be so busy you won’t have time to be nervous!
